Fred and his wife joined us on a 6-day mountain lion hunt during the month of March in southern Utah. we hunted hard and trailed a lion on the Monroe mountain using well-trained hunting hounds.
tough hunting and tired dogs, we spent 2 days horseback trailing this particular mountain lion through dry south sloping canyons to only be digging and clawing through hard crusty 2 foot plus snowdrifts on the north slopes of the same canyons, with tough muddy conditions in between.
Having three daughters at home myself, made this trip special. Watching a father who took the time to teach a young girl to fish, be rewarded with a friendship and bond later in life, turn into adventure and memories that will be cherished by the two of them forever. that’s the business I’m really in!!!
when heading out into the woods after a lion. you need to be prepared for many different weather conditions and temperatures. depending on the location of the hunts you could be dealing with sunny dry and temps in the 40-50’s. or 3ft of wind blowing snow with the high never reaching zero in the day. you need to talk to your outfitter and get a good feel for typical weather conditions. but you also need to know your self and prepare accordingly. if your coming from south Florida to hunt the rocky mountain west in January the cold is going to hit you much harder than the outfitter that hasn’t seen temps above freezing for two months.
